This project involved creating packaging for a fictional company that would have existed during the Art Nouveau period (1890-1910). this includes using colors and fonts that would have been commonly seen during that time. The packaging had to have these elements as well as be fully printable by anyone with any kind of printer.
The font styling and designs are uncommon today and required research to properly showcase the design. Furthermore the colors of the time were significantly reduced since not all colors at the time could be printed.
The final product includes font styles that would have been commonly used at the time along with spot colors that would have been both available and common at the time reflecting the large scale cost cutting that was common for the time. Decorative elements were included from the art nouveau movement that highlight the product and make it more attractive to the eye.
The moodboards were created through research of the time period and the designs and packaging that was common at the time. As a significant portion of tea packaging at the time was tin, the art and designs would have to be modified to fit a paper based medium instead. The research also revealed that many companies used contrasting colors to in order to be more visually attractive.
Two revisions of the packaging were made. The initial green version of the packaging was more visual varied but lacked the pop that was seen in the research. this was remedied in the second revision with a a bigger focus on using the reds and yellows to stand out more on shelves. Both designs can be printed with any printer but benefit from more accurate colors on higher end printers.
